Oscar Miro-Quesada Solevo is a respected kamasqa curandero and altomisayoq adept from Peru, visionary founder of The Heart of the Healer (THOTH) Alliance, originator of Pachakuti Mesa Tradition cross-cultural shamanism, and co-author (with Bonnie Glass-Coffin, Ph.D.) of Lessons in Courage: Peruvian Shamanic Wisdom for Everyday Life. An internationally acclaimed shamanic teacher, healer and earth honoring ritualist, don Oscar is also OAS Fellow in Ethnopsychology, UN Invited Observer to the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, and Member of the Birth 2012 Welcoming Committee convened by Barbara Marx Hubbard and the Synergy Foundation Evolutionary Leaders Circle convened, respectively, by Barbara Marx Hubbard and Deepak Chopra.
He has been guiding ethnospiritual apprenticeship expeditions to sacred sites of the world since 1986, with special emphasis on Peru and Bolivia. He is a popular faculty member at educational centers in the USA and abroad, dedicating his life to the revitalization of aboriginal wisdom traditions as a means of restoring sacred trust between humankind and the natural world. Don Oscar Miro-Quesada Solevo is the originator of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition of cross-cultural shamanism and visionary founder of The Heart of the Healer Alliance (THOTH). He is also the UN Observer to the Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues, and OAS Fellow in Ethnopsychology. A respected kamasqa curandero and altomisayoq adept from Peru, don Oscar’s apprenticeship in northern coastal huachuma curanderismo and initiation into the southeastern Andean paqokuna shaman/priesthood, formally took place between the years 1969 and 1986.
His first immersion into the living soul and mythic reality of Peruvian shamanism was under the uncompromising tutelage of the famed huachumero don Celso Rojas Palomino from Salas, a then small agricultural community near the city of Chiclayo. Don Oscar accomplished his apprenticeship in northern coastal curanderismo fulfilling the dual role of auxilio de mesada (“healing altar auxiliary” or “ceremonial assistant”) and rastrero (“clairvoyant diagnostician”/”diviner”), eventually becoming don Celso’s segundo de mando en banco (“second in command for curing sessions”), throughout the winter months (June, July and August in the Southern Hemisphere) of each year until don Celso’s untimely passing in July of 1982.
Less than a month after this mournful event, don Oscar found himself serendipitously involved in a considerably less formal and more sporadic four-year apprenticeship within the southeastern Andean Paqo tradition of shamanism with famed kuraq akulleq don Benito Corihuaman Vargas from the village of Wasao, a farming community one hour south of Cusco. In recognition of his expeditious grasp of traditional Q’eswaruna cosmovision, witnessed through the skilled performance of ancestral propitiatory earth-honoring ceremonies, don Oscar received his musqochiwarqa qallariy transmission as altomisayoq from don Benito in November of 1985, barely seven months before this deeply revered elder also made his passing in June of 1986.
A few days prior to the destined time of each of their earthly transitions, both these venerated elders sanctioned Oscar with an uncannily similar compacto de voz y palabra (i.e., “an oral bequeath as elder lineage carrier for the people,”– an emisau de la nacion), specifically requesting him to share the “prophetic vision” of the “Ancient Ones” as he best understood it, among as many people as possible born and living in modern Western developed nations of the world. Ironic as it may sound, both elders insisted this was the only way of safeguarding the true “inner wisdom” (i.e., esoteric dimension) behind the Earth-based spiritual traditions and healing arts continuously practiced by Peruvian indigenous cultures since time immemorial. They both were also quite tenacious with their emphasis on this being the only viable antidote to preventing the further usurpation and eventual total disappearance of these sacred wisdom traditions if left solely in the hands of their own people. That is, in the hands of the largely Western acculturated mestizo population increasingly vulnerable to the insidious impact of the current unbridled process of consumerist globalization. Hence, following countless moons of vision seeking embodied with patience and precision through the loving nurturance of sacred earth-honoring communities worldwide, the Pachakuti Mesa lineage of Cross-Cultural Shamanism has organically blossomed as a soul-infused vehicle for deep personal and planetary transformation, thus fulfilling the noble intentions of both venerable elders who bequeathed don Oscar with the oral sanction to preserve Heart Island’s (South America) ancestral healing traditions as Peru’s legacy to all future generations.
